From October this year Qantas begins codesharing on a number of select Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights. The new codeshare partnership will give Qantas FF members a stronger serving of Qantas Points and status compared to the current ‘partner’ rate.
This is great news as Qantas FF members who book an eligible Cathay flight under its Qantas codeshare QF flight number will now earn points and status credits earning rates equivalent to those onboard a Qantas aircraft.
Beyond Hong Kong Qantas codeshares will now be available on Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights to Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Colombo, Danang, Delhi, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Mumbai and Yangon. The new codeshare flights will be available for sale from 22 October for travel from 28 October.
For those under Cathay Pacific’s Marco Polo program, 13 of Qantas’ domestic routes will be under a CX codeshare. Routes include flights between Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns and Alice Springs.
Across all fare types, you’ll now earn more points when booking a Qantas QF flight number than when booking a Cathay Pacific CX flight, as well as earn status credits at higher rates too.
Another exciting development from the new deal is that Qantas Club loungers who book a QF codeshare flight to one of the new CX codeshare destinations will be able to unlock access to a Qantas-operated lounge.
Congratulations Qantas on the new deal! In an aviation world where several airlines are on a race to the bottom, it’s nice to occasionally be surprised with news like this where a product has actually been ‘enhanced’ for the passenger.
